Gottman Method Couples Therapy
What Is the Gottman Method?
The Gottman Method is a research-based approach to relationship counselling developed by Drs John and Julie Gottman through decades of study with thousands of couples. Rather than focusing solely on problems, it examines the patterns that contribute to both relationship distress and relationship success — and provides practical tools to shift them.
Grounded in extensive research, the Gottman Method is widely recognised as one of the most evidence-based approaches to couples therapy available. It is particularly well suited to couples seeking meaningful and lasting change rather than short-term symptom relief.
The NT’s Only Certified Gottman Therapist
Certification in the Gottman Method involves far more than completing a training workshop. It requires a multi-year process of advanced training, supervised clinical practice and competency-based assessment through The Gottman Institute. As part of certification, therapists must demonstrate clinical competence through detailed video review of their work with couples — assessed against the core interventions of the Gottman Method.
I have completed all three levels of Gottman Method Couples Therapy training and hold full certification through The Gottman Institute. I am currently the Northern Territory’s only Certified Gottman Therapist.
