Autism and ADHD Assessments in Darwin
A comprehensive, neuro-affirming assessment focused on understanding how your brain works – not “fixing” who you are.
At Breakthrough Psychology, Autism and ADHD assessments are collaborative, respectful, and grounded in clinical expertise. Whether you’re seeking clarity for yourself or for an adolescent, the focus is on insight, validation, and practical guidance for next steps.
Who are Autism and ADHD assessments for?
Autism and ADHD assessments are suitable for adults and adolescents seeking a clearer understanding of how they think, learn, and experience the world.
Many people pursue assessment after years of feeling misunderstood, overwhelmed, or unsure why certain aspects of life feel harder than they seem for others. Others begin exploring assessment after a recommendation from a GP, psychologist, educator, or family member.
In-person assessment appointments are available in Darwin during scheduled clinic times, with telehealth available where clinically appropriate.
Assessments are currently offered for adults and adolescents aged approximately 10 years and over.
A neuro-affirming and respectful assessment approach
I take a neuro-affirming approach to assessment, recognising neurodivergence as a natural part of human diversity rather than something that needs to be fixed.
The process is collaborative and transparent, with an emphasis on understanding strengths, challenges, and support needs. Feedback is shared in a way that feels validating, practical, and empowering.
Assessments are tailored to the individual, rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all checklist.
What does the assessment process involve?
Autism and ADHD assessments involve a combination of clinical interviews, standardised questionnaires, and (where appropriate) behavioural observations. The exact components are tailored to the individual and guided by best-practice clinical standards.
The assessment focuses on building a comprehensive picture rather than relying on a single test or score. This allows recommendations to be meaningful, relevant, and personalised.
Typically, the process includes:
- Intake forms and background information
- Clinical interview (developmental history and current functioning)
- Questionnaires (self-report and, where relevant, informant/parent report)
- Review of previous reports (if available)
- Feedback session with practical recommendations
- Comprehensive written report
