How I work

Want to work with an experienced therapist in Darwin?

Asking for help is never easy.

When you’re facing challenges or feeling stuck, it’s natural to try to manage things on your own. But sometimes, despite your best efforts, nothing seems to shift and it can feel hard to know what to do next.

It takes openness and courage to seek professional support. As an experienced clinical psychologist in Darwin, I’m here to walk alongside you for part of that journey, helping you gain clarity, work through challenges, and move towards feeling more grounded and capable rather than simply getting by.

Since starting my private practice in 2010, it’s been a privilege to support people from diverse backgrounds as they work towards meaningful and lasting change. The process isn’t always easy, but with the right support, it can be deeply rewarding.

Therapy in Darwin

Relationship or couples counselling

As the Northern Territory’s only Certified Gottman Therapist, I provide relationship and couples counselling using the research-based Gottman Method. Couples therapy begins with a structured New Couples Assessment, designed to develop a clear and shared understanding of the relationship before ongoing therapy commences.

The assessment involves completion of the Gottman Relationship Check-up questionnaire, followed by two joint couples sessions and one individual session with each partner. The full assessment takes place over one day in Darwin and involves approximately six hours of in-person sessions, with a one-hour break in the middle of the day.

This assessment day provides the foundation for focused, effective couples therapy by identifying strengths, areas of concern, and clear therapeutic goals. Following the assessment, recommendations for ongoing couples counselling are discussed collaboratively.

Anxiety and depression

I provide psychological therapy for adults experiencing anxiety and depression, with in-person appointments available during my monthly week-long clinic in Nightcliff, Darwin.

Sessions are focused on understanding the factors contributing to distress and developing practical strategies to support emotional wellbeing. Appointments can be booked online, where available dates and times are listed. Information about fees and Medicare rebates can be found on the Frequently Asked Questions page.

Telehealth

Telehealth appointments offer a flexible and effective way to access psychological therapy. Research shows that telehealth therapy can be just as effective as in-person counselling, while allowing greater accessibility and continuity of care.

Telehealth sessions may take place weekly or fortnightly, with the option of transitioning to one or more in-person sessions during my monthly week-long clinic in Darwin, if this feels helpful.

Flexibility

I understand that life is busy and circumstances can change unexpectedly. There are no rigid rules about how often therapy needs to occur, and no expectations placed on you.

You decide how frequently you’d like to attend sessions and whether you prefer telehealth or in-person appointments. Some people begin with weekly sessions, then move to fortnightly or monthly appointments as their needs change.

You’re in control

Choosing to see a psychologist is a significant step, and therapy should always feel safe and respectful. There is no pressure to talk about trauma or personal experiences before you feel ready.

You decide what you would like to focus on in sessions and how much you wish to share. Your autonomy is respected at all times, and therapy progresses at a pace that feels right for you.
